The Current Leveling System Is Not Friendly to Casual Players

I would like to share some frustration with the current progression system in DBO, especially from the perspective of a casual player.

First of all, I want to make it clear that, in my opinion, this is one of the best versions of DBO we have had when it comes to events, improvements, updates, and overall content. It is clear that a lot of work is constantly being done to keep the game alive, add new things, and improve the player experience.

That is exactly why I feel the current leveling system stands out as one of the weakest parts of an otherwise very good experience.

I enjoy the game, but like many other players, I have a job, a relationship, responsibilities, and I simply cannot spend several hours every day playing. Right now, I feel that the leveling process is taking way too long.

Based on my recent experience, it takes me around 2 hours just to gain 2 or 3 levels. On top of that, depending on the class, killing regular mobs can also take quite a long time. When you consider that reaching the level cap is only the beginning of character progression, this becomes an even bigger issue.

The real progression starts afterwards, when we need to farm gear, items, resources, and everything else required to participate in PvP and endgame content. If most of a casual player's available playtime is already spent just trying to reach the level cap, there is very little time left to actually enjoy the content that keeps people playing in the long term.

I also believe this is especially problematic for new players.

Veteran players already know the game. They know where to level, how to build their characters, and often already have other characters, resources, or friends who can help them.

A brand-new player has none of that.

When a new player joins the server and realizes they may need to invest many hours just to gain a few levels, before even reaching the more interesting parts of the game, it can become very discouraging. The server may have great events, excellent content, and good endgame systems, but new players first need to be able to reach that content.

Because of this, I believe leveling should work as an introduction to the game and its endgame, rather than being a barrier to entry.

Another issue is the skill reset system.

It would be much better if we could reset our builds more frequently, or even freely. Many classes need one build for leveling/farming and a completely different build for PvP. Being able to reset your build only once per week is extremely limiting.

In practice, this forces players to choose between having an efficient leveling/farming build or having a proper PvP build. In a game where different types of content require different setups, I believe players should have more freedom to adapt their characters.

There is also the issue of buffers.

Currently, if you want to farm efficiently, in many situations having your main character is not enough. You also need a second character just to provide buffs.

For a hardcore player, leveling and maintaining multiple characters might not be a big problem, but for a casual player this basically means having to level two characters before you can even start farming efficiently.

If leveling one character already takes a significant amount of time, imagine having to level two.

Depending on your class, the situation can be even worse because some classes are simply not very efficient at solo farming. This means certain players can progress much faster while others fall behind simply because of the class they decided to play.

I think a few changes could greatly improve the overall experience:

  • Slightly increase EXP rates or reduce mob HP / kill time during the leveling process.
  • Allow players to reset their builds much more frequently, especially when switching between PvE/farming and PvP.
  • Reduce the dependency on having a second character only for buffs.
  • Improve the solo farming capabilities of classes that currently struggle with it.
  • Make the road to endgame more accessible, while keeping the heavier grind focused on gear, progression, and competitive content.
I am not saying that the game should become extremely fast or that everything should be handed to players for free. Grinding is part of an MMORPG, and having a sense of progression is important.

The problem starts when the amount of time required just to reach the main content becomes a barrier for players who cannot dedicate several hours every single day. It also makes the game much less attractive to new players who are joining the server for the first time.

In my opinion, leveling should prepare players for the endgame, not prevent them from reaching it.

The server already has many strong points, especially its events, content, and constant improvements. It would be a shame if new players never got the chance to experience all of that simply because they became discouraged and quit during the leveling process.

DBO needs hardcore players, casual players, and a constant flow of new players to maintain a healthy and active community.

I hope the team considers making some adjustments to the progression system so that more players can actually reach and enjoy the great content the server already has to offer.

I agree with you with skill reset , it should be easier but the leveling , you don't need to rush it , is part of the game , sometimes it s a challenge but if you ask people are always free to help
